|Swedish outfit Dead Vibrations are today releasing a new single titled ‘Underwater’, which arrives following a summer of European shows that included a gig with Aussie punks Amyl & The Sniffers in their hometown Stockholm and performances at Manchester Psych Fest and Fuzz Club Eindhoven. A blast of crushing fuzz-drenched guitars and echoing vocals that are backed by a taut, primal rhythm section, the new single sees the four-piece’s brooding shoegaze at its finest.
Dead Vibrations say of the song: "This song surprised us in our rehearsal space. After weeks of messing around with another track we intended to release as our next single, the main melody of ‘Underwater’ appeared out of thin air and the rest of the song came together moments later. Suddenly we had a new song that we all instantly agreed on being our next single. In a sense, we wanted to go for the spontaneous and natural rather than the calculated. The lyrics are about being trapped in a bad state of mind. It’s a ‘guide’ on how to get out of it and achieve inner peace and security.â€Â Â
Comprised of Christian Janson (guitar, vocals), Elmer Hallsby (bass), Josefin Ahlqvist Lyzwinski (drums) and Louise Erdman (guitar), Dead Vibrations formed in Stockholm back in 2015. Quickly picking up a notorious reputation in the Scandi psych scene, they released the ‘Reflections’ EP in 2016 and then, a year later, the ‘Swirl/Sleeping In Silver Garden’ 7â€. By this point their reputation was starting to extend further afield and they soon signed to London-based label Fuzz Club for the release of their debut self-titled full-length which arrived in January last year. After touring the highly-praised debut album around Europe, the band are now back in the studio working on the follow-up and new cut ‘Underwater’ is a sign of the sort of the visceral walls-of-noise we can expect.
